"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts."

Bertrand Russell is wrong.
That’s not the whole problem.
You and I are the other part of the problem.

Everyone Agrees, Public Governance Is Broken. Let’s Fix it.

Do you believe that the way societies are governed is working well and needs no further attention?

If so, then you and the three other people on Earth who agree with you should go watch some funny videos instead of wasting your time here.

For the rest of us, let’s start by enumerating the things that are wrong with public governance:

Problem #1 Each of us has found themselves in a voting booth, confronted by candidates we know something about and others we know nothing about; not to mention referendum choices we haven’t had time to study.

But, heeding the “it’s everyone’s responsibility to vote!” drumbeat, we make a bunch of choices, some vaguely informed and others completely uninformed. All our choices, informed or otherwise, will affect the lives of ourselves, our families… everyone.

Problem #2 Every smart politician knows that elections are won by pandering to the emotions of a part of the population whose thoughts on issues can fit on a bumper sticker.

Problem #3 Voting systems are a mess. Vote by mail, seen as a big advance, opens up new channels for abuse.

Technology has been developed to make voting systems fair and nearly incorruptible, but as those who decide which methods and systems to adopt choose not to learn about those systems, we will go from one bad voting system to another.

Optimocracy fixes these problems.
